TECHNO
Techno. It is one of the most popular styles of
electronic music. Its origin is generally located in Detroit in the early 80s,
although the antecedents can be traced back to the late 60s. Unlike other
genres such as electro pop, techno does not use the structure of a song, but is
structured in a repetitive way, to maximize the danceable effect of the music.
Concept:
A genre of electronic music characterized by the 4/4
time signature, whose beats (quarter notes) are marked by a bass drum (usually
called kick or bassdrum), and the consequent use of electronic instruments,
such as synthesizers and samplers.
Emergence:
The first recording to use the word techno as a
reference to a musical genre dates from 1988. Nowadays there are a multitude of
techno styles, although it is generally accepted that the genesis of the genre
is to be found in detroit techno and its precursors.
The origin of techno is to be found in the fusion of
certain European music trends, based on the experimental use of the
synthesizer, with different styles of music with Afro-American roots such as
funk, free jazz or early electro. To this is added the influence of a
futuristic aesthetic and theme, based on both science fiction and some ideas
from the work of Alvin Toffler.
The term techno itself from the concept of "techno rebels" present in the book The Third Wave by the American sociologist. This combination of ideas brings techno closer to a kind of Afrofuturist and cyberpunk aesthetics.
The specialized press and techno followers criticize
the loose use that is sometimes given to the term, as it is sometimes confused
with other different styles with which it has nothing to do, such as dance or
trance.
